Don't wait

What to do now

You have 1 year to report the claim

Florida law gives you 1 year after the date of loss to notify your insurer, and 18 months for a supplemental claim.

§ 627.70132

Document before you repair

Photos and video of every damaged area, before cleaning or fixing, are the base of your claim.

Hire licensed contractors only

Contracting without a license during a declared state of emergency is a third-degree felony in Florida.

§ 489.127

Your rights

Your rights with a public adjuster in Florida

The Governor declared a state of emergency for Hurricane Isaias. These Florida rules protect you on claims from the storm.

Public adjuster fees: 10% maximum on Isaias claims

  • For claims from an event under the Governor's state of emergency made during the year after the declaration, a public adjuster may charge no more than 10% of what the insurer pays. After that year, and for other claims, the limit is 20%.
  • 0% on anything the insurer paid or agreed in writing to pay before you signed the public adjuster contract.
  • No fee may be based on your deductible, or on additional living expenses unless you agree to it in a separate document.
Florida Statutes § 626.854

Your right to cancel

For a contract tied to a declared emergency, you can cancel without penalty within 30 days after the date of loss or 10 days after signing, whichever is longer.

§ 626.854(7)

When a public adjuster may contact you

Only Monday through Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. You can always call us first.

§ 626.854(5)

If you disagree with your insurer

On a residential claim you can ask the Department of Financial Services for mediation; the insurer pays its cost. Many policies also include appraisal.
